Obituary-John Ferdinand Peschong was born at Canova, South Dakota on January 5, 1894 to Anthony V and Theresa Gassman Peschong and passed away at the Veteran's Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on January 3, 1963 at the age of 68 years, 11 months and 28 days. Shortly after his birth his mother died leaving him in the care of an aunt and uncle, Mr & Mrs Leo Schroeder, who raised him along with their two daughters, Mrs Elizabith Schueller, now living in Howard and Mrs Anna C Gassman, of Eugene, Oregon. He attended Howard Public and St Agatha Catholic schools and Mankato Business College. After finishing his schooling he left South Dakota in the company of his uncle, Leo Schroeder, for Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada, where they homesteaded. At the outbreak of World War I he returned to the United States and joined the Army. After his discharge he accepted a position at the First National Bank in Howard and continued in the banking and insurance business in Howard until his retirement, September 1, 1962. He was united in marriage, May 21, 1919 to Thresia Mary Miller. To this union were born nine children, Richard J of London, England; Helen M (Schneiderhan) of Anchorage, Alaska; Leon J of Mitchell, SD; Rita A (Mills) of Huron, SD; Carol J (Rockwell) of Omaha, NE; Thomas H of Lagos, Nigeria; Donna J (Robbins) of Vicenza, Italy; James C of Madison, SD and Alan P of Huron, SD. In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by one brother, Dr J.H. Peschong of Santa Monica, CA, two half brothers, George and Bernard Peschong of Los Angeles, CA and one half sister, Mrs Robert Leith of Roswell, SD. Requiem High Mass was offered on January 7, 1963 at St Agatha Catholic church with Father W.J. Burns officiating. Interment was at St Joseph cemetery, Howard under the direction of the Willoughby Funeral Home with Robert Breuer, Mark Breuer, Vincent Breuer, Gerald Miller, Duane Miller and Virgil Miller acting as pallbearers. The American Legion were in charge of the military rites.
