Leon Joseph Peschong was born May 2, 1924 at Howard, SD to John and Teresa Miller Peschong. He graduated from St Agatha Catholic High School in Howard. He served in the US Army during World War II in Europe with the 10th Armored Division. He was in the Battle of the Bulge and received a Bronze Star. After his discharge he attended Creighton University and graduated with a degree in Dentistry. On June 30, 1948, he married Rosemary Zimmermann at St Joseph Cathedral in Sioux Falls. He began his Dental Practice in Woonsocket in 1952, and then moved to Mitchell in 1956, where he practiced until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Elks Lodge, VFW, American Legion, American Dental Association, and the Creighton University Advisory Board. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.

He is survived by eight children, Steve Peschong and wife Marilyn of Mitchell, SD; Michelle Ommen and husband Mike of Mitchell, SD; Tim Peschong and wife Deb of Moorehead, MN; Jim Peschong and wife Beth, of Aberdeen, SD; Mary Brechler and husband Chris of Henderson NV; Lisa Whealy and husband Mark of Madison, SD; Mike Peschong and wife Lea Ann of Marshalltown, IA; Tony Peschong and wife Sharla of Milford, IA; twenty-three grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, five brothers and sisters: Helen Schneiderhan of Pierre, SD; Rita Mills of Huron, SD; Carol Rockwell of St Paul, MN; James Peschong and wife Barbara of Brandon, SD; Alan Peschong and wife Mary of Lakewood, CO and one sister-in-law, Margaret Peschong of Howard, SD. He was preceded in death by his wife Rosemary in 2007, two brothers, Richard and Thomas and one sister, Donna Robbins.
