Obituary
Obituary-Ethel Sophia Johnson was born just four days after the Wright Brothers first flight on December 21, 1903 to Oscar and Clara Olson Johnson in Canova SD.
She attended school at Canova, and matriculated at Eastern Normal School (Dakota State University) in Madison SD, obtaining a teaching degree in 1923. Ethel taught in one room schools near Miller, SD and at the Trackside School near Canova.
In 1926 she wed George B Miller, and they farmed south of Howard, 4 miles south of Winfred, and moved to the farm 6 miles east of Howard in March of 1940. Six children were born to this union, and survive her, Virgil of Presho, SD; Duane, Howard, SD; Jeanette Mills, Burbank, CA; Dennis, Columbus, NE; Melvin, Sunnyvale, CA; and Marvin, Baltic, SD.
George & Ethel retired to Howard in 1954.
Ethel was an active member of St Agatha Catholic Church and the Howard Senior Citizens. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and was an excellent card player until loss of eyesight hindered her. She enjoyed cooking and baking, and was famous amoung her family members with her many crocheting and knitting projects.
Ethel was preceded to her final reward by her parents, brothers and sisters, husband George, one grandson and one great-great grandson. She leaves to mourn her passing, her 6 children, 21 grand children, 43 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren
