Funeral services for Mrs anna Ching, 75, were held Saturday at 2:00 pm in the first Presbyterian Church in Castlewood. Dr I Wilkens officiated at the last rites. Burial was in the Castlewood cemetery.
Mrs Ching, a longtime prominent resident of Hamlin County, died early Thursday at her home east of Castlewood.
Funeral music was played by Mrs Barbirie Rauch who also accompanied the male quartet consisting of Merle Pommer, Robert Tillma and Darrell and Larry Walklin. They sang “ in the Garden” and “There is no night there”.
Pall bearers were four sons, Howard, Hugh, Melvin and Wilbur Ching, Richard Ching and Herbert Franklin.
Mrs Ching, wife of W.H.R. Ching, made her home in Hamlin County for 69 years with the exception of five years when she and her husband homesteaded near Aroya, Colorado.
Crs Ching was born in Ontario, Canada, Aug 1, 1883, daughter of Mrs and Mrs John Jardine. She came to the United States with her parents when she was six years old, settling in Hamlin County.
She was married to W.H.R. Ching, March 30, 2908, at the home of Mr and Mrs Charles Franklin in Castlewood.
She attended the district school near her home and later attended high school in Watertown where she made her home with an uncle, Don Livingston.
She was a lifelong member of the Castlewood Presbyterian church and a charter member of the ladies aid. She also taught Sunday school for many years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the charter member of the Stray Horse Echo club.
Mrs Ching is survived by her husband, five daughters, Mrs Earl (Mary) Rausch, and Mrs John (Lois) Goldhorn, both of Castlewood. Mrs Clyde (Helen) Brooks and Mrs Willard (Margaret) Grow, both of Watertown, and Mrs Ernest (Phyllis) Olson of Brookings; four sons, Howard R, Melvin R and Wilbur J, all of Castlewood, and Hugh of Watertown; one sister, Mrs Susan North of Watertown; one brother, John Jardine of Loomis, CA; 22 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and one brother.
