Hugh “Peanuts” Ching, 88, Castlewood died Friday Dec 7, 2001, at an Estelline care center.
Hugh Ching, the son of WHR and Anne (Jardine) Ching, was born Nov 18, 1913, on his parents farm west of Castlewood in Hamlin County. He attended country school and Castlewood High School. He farmed with his father.
He married Myrtle I. Mitchell in Watertown March 10, 1939. They farmed until moving to Watertown where he worked for the Watertown Animal Clinic. Following his retirement they lived in Edmond, OK for several years before moving to Castlewood. Myrtle Ching died in 1995.
He married Georgiana “Dottie” Mennenga March 30, 1996, at Castlewood. He worked part-time for Ken Mack Landscaping.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Castlewood. He enjoyed gardening and traveling.
Survivors include his wife, Georgiana of Castlewood; a son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Susan of Pawcatuck, CT, a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Ed Sandvig of Hudson; a stepdaughter, Cheryl and husband Ron Jongeling of Castlewood; two stepsons, Paul Mennenga of Edgemont, and Marlin and wife Alyce Mennenga of Watertown; four grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Helen Brooks of Watertown, Mary Raasch of Castlewood, Lois and John Goldhorn of Castlewood and Margaret and Clem Sonntag of Janesville, WI; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Wilbur and Wilma Ching of Castlewood and Dick and Hazel Ching of Watertown.
