Obituary
Phyllis M Olson, the daughter of W.H. Rowe and Ann (Jardine) Ching, was born on May 1, 1925 on a farm near Castlewood, South Dakota. She graduated from Castlewood High School. She was employed by George Stockwell Windcharger Company, and she also took care of her mother for a few years. On June 11, 1951, she married Ernest Olson on her parents farm near Castlewood, and the couple lived in Brookings for 17 years. While in Brookings, Phyllis worked as a clerk at Sears. In 1967, they moved to Watertown. While she was in Watertown, she was employed at Pamida for 20 years. Phyllis was an avid Watertown Arrow Wrestling spectator. She was a member of the First Congtregational United Church of Christ and Women’s Fellowship.
Phyllis M Olson passed away on Saturday, January 23, 1999, in her home at Watertown, South Dakota at the age of 73 years, 8 months, and 22 days.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Howard.
Survivors include her husband, Ernie of Watertown; three sons, James and his fiancee Diane Gilman of Wyoming, MN, Gary and his wife Cindy, and Steve and his wife Jane all of Watertown; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Lenny Evangelisto of Warner, SD; four sisters, Mary Raasch and her husband Earl of Castlewood, Helen (Peg) Brooks of Watertown, Lois (Gump) Goldhorn and her huyband John (Curly) of Castlewood, nad Margaret (Margie) Sontaag and her husband Clem of Janesville, WI; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Hugh (Peanuts) and Dottie Ching of Castlewood, Melvin (Dick) and Hazel Ching of Watertown, and Wilbur (Willie) and Wilma Ching of Castlewood; a sister-in-law, Eva Ching of Watertown; five granddaughters, Abby, Kelly, and Erin Olson, and Heather and Mia Evangelisto. Five grandsons, Mike, David, Mark, and Daniel Olson, and Nicholas Evangelisto. Two great-grandaughters, Rachel and Emily.
