FINAL RITES FOR MRS J.E. CARLSON- Funeral services were held in the Congregational church Friday afternoon at two o'clock for Mrs John E Carlson who died at her home here on June 17. The services were conducted by Rev Virgil C Hicks of the Congregational church and the funeral was in the charge of the Willoughby Funeral Home.
A trio consisting of Mrs DC Williams, Mrs Lester Lindblom and Miss Lois Williams, with Dick Williams as accompanist, sang during the services.
Burial was in the Canova cemetery, with Ray Shaw, Elmer C Strobel, Donald Omanson, George Appenzeller, Clifford Johnson and Arthur Peterson as pallbearers.
Hildur Maria Johnson, a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Oscar E Johnson, was born at the home of her parents near Canova on April 29, 1898 and died on June 17 1952 at the age of 54 years, 1 month and 19 days.
She moved to Canova with her parents in 1921 and on June 16 of that year she was united in marriage to John E Carlson. They farmed near Canova for a few years and then moved to Slayton, MN, where they operated a cafe for seven years. Mr and Mrs Carlson and family returned to Canova in 1944 and this has remained their home.
Mrs Carlson was babtized in the Lutheran faith, and was a member of the Congregational ladies aid in Canova.
Mrs Carlson is survived by her widower; two sons, John Arnold and Ronald Edward; one daughter, Mrs Ilene Palmer, of Sioux Falls; one granddaughter, Connie Palmer; two brothers, Albert of Colorado Springs, CO, and Harold of Canova; two sisters, Mrs Alice Hood of Corpus Christi, TX, and Mrs Ethel Miller of Winfred, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Arthur and Carl.
Relatives from a distance attending the funeral were, Mrs CE Hood and Harold Johnson of Corpus Christi, Texas; Mrs and Mrs Albert Johnson of Colorado Springs, CO; Mr and Mrs S Johnson of Lake Andes; Mr and Mrs Oscar W Lanier and Miss Vera Johnson of Alton, IL, and a number of relatives from Montrose and Salem.
