JOHN CARLSON DIES AT 98-John E Carlson, age 98, former resident of Canova died Friday, May 14th at a nursing home in Sioux Falls.
Memorial services were held at Miller Funeral Home in Sioux Falls on Monday morning and burial at the Canova Cemetery in the afternoon.
John Carlson was born on October 15, 1894 at Karlstad, Sweden. He moved to America in 1912 and came to Sioux Falls a short time later.
He worked at the Cataract Hotel for a time.
Moving to Canova & farmed in the Canova & Winfred area for several years.
On June 16, 1921 he married Hildur M Johnson in Canova. She died in 1952.
John moved to Sioux Falls and worked as a custodian at the Newberry store, retiring in 1959.
He married Mary Foster on December 18, 1953 in Luverne MN. He had been a resident of Bethany Nursing Home since 1984. Survivors include his wife Mary, 2 sons, John of San Diego, CA; and Ronald of Auburndale, FL; one daughter, Mrs Jack (Ilene) Palmer of Appleton, WI; 7 grand children, 2 step grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and one brother, Friedolph in Sweden.
Note-when the Carlson family lived in Canova their home was just west of the Church, the present home of Max & Mary Lou Miller.
