Obituary-Funeral services were held at St Agatha Catholic church, in Howard, SD on June 9th for Herman A Miller, age 78, with Father Henry Sikkes, Father Robert Krantz, Leola, SD, Father A Petrosky, of Epiphany and Father Edward Gills, of St Edward, NE co-celebrating the Mass. Burial was in the St Joseph cemetery at Howard. Casketbearers were eight grandsons, Steve Miller, Bob Miller, Dave Miller, Joe Miller, Tim Wolf, Tony Wolf, Jeff Wolf and Doug Sadler. Scripture service and Rosary was held in St Agatha church on June 8th at 8.00 p.m.
Herman Miller was born June 13, 1903 at St Mary's, Iowa to V.C. and Anna Miller. In 1910 he moved, with his family, to a farm two miles south of Howard. On May 29, 1929 he married Oliva Lauer. To this union two boys and three girls were born. They farmed near Roswell SD for six years before moving to the V.C. Miller farm south of Howard, where they farmed and lived for 46 years. In 1979 Herman and Oliva celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary and in 1981 they moved into Howard. Herman died on Sunday, June 6th, after a short illness and is survived by his wife, Oliva and son, Gerald of Howard, three daughters, Mrs Tom (Grace) Wolf, of Madison, SD; Mrs Martin (Bonnie) Wolf of Scotland, SD; Mrs Don Sadler, of Canova, SD; 23 grandchildren, 2 great granddaughters and one brother, Frank A Miller, who resides at the Howard Good Samaritan Center. He was preceeded in death by one son, Larry, one grandson, six brothers and two sisters.
