Mary Ann Miller, 77, of Howard, SD passed away after a long battle with cancer on Sunday, November 9, 2008 at Sanford Health Care Center, Sioux Falls, SD.
Mary Ann McAdaragh was born July 16, 1931 at Oldham, to James and Loretta (Smith) McAdaragh. Mary Ann attended rural school and graduated from St Agatha Catholic High School, Howard in 1949. Mary Ann graduated from St Johns Nursing School in Huron.
Mary Ann was united in marriage to Gerald Miller on April 25, 1953 at St Catherine Catholic Church, Oldham. The couple lived in Minneapolis, Howard, two years at Plankinton, and returned to the Howard area where they farmed and raised their children. Mary Ann returned to the nursing profession in 1973 as an employee of Howard Good Samaritan Center, working on the floor and in later years was very proud of being the Staff Development Director for the Center. She retired after 30 years of working with the Good Samaritan Society.
Mary Ann, over the years enjoyed reading, traveling and wintering in Arizona the last few years. She was very involved in her community and church, being a member of St. Agatha, where she taught Jr. High CCD and took part in Woman’s Guild. In the Howard community she was one of the founding members of the Howard women’s investment club, she also took part in a book club, and truly enjoyed her bridge card club.
Mary Ann dearly loved life, her family and especially those cherished moments with her grandchildren. She will be truly missed by all.
Those grateful for having shared her life include her husband, Gerald of Howard; a daughter, Kathryn (Stephen) Holmes of Garrison, ND; four sons, Steven (Lizette) of Berkeley, CA; Robert (Chris) of Omaha, NE; David (Marcia) of Howard; Joseph (Eileen) of Canberra, Australia; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Regena (Leo) Kattke of Oldham; and a sister-in-law, Nadene McAdaragh of Sioux Falls.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, November 12 at St Agatha Catholic Church in Howard with Interment at St Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Howard
