Obituary
Vince Breuer, 87, passed away at the Good Samaritan Society in Howard, SD on July 11, 2011. Vince’s life was filled with the love of his family, and he is now reunited with his wife Maxine, who passed away in 2010.

Vincent Nicholas Breuer was born on July 30, 1923, near Howard to Nick and Mary (Miller) Breuer. His mother died when he was 11. We was the second of four children. He attended country grade school and graduated from St. Agatha High School at age 16.

In 1941, he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps in the Black Hills. He later worked at St. Joseph Hospital in Mitchell. He was drafted into the Army during World War II and served in the South Pacific for two years, serving in New Guinea and Luzon and receiving the WWII Victory Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon and Philippine Liberation Ribbon.

During the war, he and Maxine wrote to each other often, and they became engaged. Vince sent Maxine money from overseas to buy her own engagement ring, and they were married after he returned from the war, on May 7, 1946 at St Agatha Church. They were dedicated members of St Agatha throughout their 64 years of marriage.

He farmed; co-owned and operated Breuer Bros. aerial crop spraying with his two brothers for more than 35 years; and started carrying mail for the U.S. Postal Service in 1951. Upon retiring in 1985, he had driven more than a million miles without an accident.

Vince loved sports, especially golf and baseball. For most of his life, he was a regular player at the Howard Golf Course, and he hit three holes in one during his years of golfing. He was also very interested in the history of his family and Miner County, and was instrumental in helping to establish the Miner County Historical Society.

Survivors include three daughters, Marlene of Madison, Carolyn (Doug) Jerlow of Wentworth, and Cheryl (Rich) Laible of Howard; three sons, Jim of Las Vegas, Don of Tea, and Gary (Sandy) of Madison; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Mark (Donna) of Howard.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Maxine in 2010; a brother, Robert; and a sister, Joan Delaney.
