FINAL RITES MONDAY FOR ALBERT JOHNSON-Albert Theodore Johnson was born on a farm near Canova on January 15, 1900, son of Clara and Oscar Johnson. He passed away on Friday, December 17, 1976 at his farm home after a lingering illness of multimyeloma.
He married Ila Loudenburg on December 23, 1925. They have three children, Iona (Mrs Clyde C Powers), of Sioux Falls, SD; Ivan of Helena MT; and Delores (Mrs Paul L Koepsell), of Brookings, SD.
He spent his entire married life on his farm home built by his father, except for nine years (1950-1959), when he lived in Colorado Springs, CO. While in Colorado, he worked at a nursery and was caretaker at the Patti Stewart Jewitt Golf Course.
The couple spent many happy years together including travels in the United States and to the Scandinavian Countries. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary a year ago.
He was a member of the Canova Congregational Church where he served as a deacon for several years. He also served in various capacities as a board member of the Vermillion Township Board.
He will be remembered as an ambitious, energetic person who was always willing to help his neighbors and family when he could. He was an avid sports fan and shared his enthusiasm with others. His fatherly love and concern was not only known by his children and grandchildren but shared with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, two brothers, Arther and Carl, and one sister, Hildur.
The survivors include his widow, three children and six grandchildren. Linda, Damon, and Burns Johnson and Steven, Royal and Pamela Koepsell.
He is also survived by two sisters, Ethel Miller, of Howard, SD and Alice Hood of Aransas Pass, TX, and one brother, Harold of Aransas Pass, TX, besides many other relatives and friends.
