Ronald M Miller, 71, of Olathe, KS and formerly of Le Mars, died unexpectedly Friday, June 24, 2005, due to an apparent massive heart attack, while visiting relatives in Le Mars.
Ron was born April 17, 1934 in Howard, SD, the son of Martin and Agnes (Lewis) Miller. He grew up in Le Mars and graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1953. He served his country with the US Army from 1954-1956 and was stationed in Japan. Ron married Arlene Kurtzhals on September 7, 1957 at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Le Mars. Following their marriage Ron was employed for many years with Stromberg-Carlson and United Telephone Company in Greenfield, IA and Newton, IA. Ron and Arlene moved to Olathe, KS in 1982, where he was employed with Sprint Telephone Company in Overland Park, KS, until his retirement in 1997. Ron and Arlene had wintered in the Mesa, AZ area since his retirement.
Ron was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Olathe, where he had served as an usher for many years.
He enjoyed playing cards, going to garage sales, wookworking ad coffeeing with friends.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Arlene Miller of Olathe, KS; a son Scott and Dulaine Miller of Traer, IA; two daughters: Kim Slycord and Richard Bates of Newton, IA, and Lisa and Steve Firestone of Olathe, KS; 10 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a half sister Marge Gannon and her husband John of Emmetsburg, IA; his mother-in-law, Mrs Ella Kounkel of Le Mars; brothers-in -law and sisters-in-law: Allen and Linda Kurtzhals of Sioux City, Rose Ann Kurtzhals of Orange City, and Doris and Ed Beitelspacher of Le Mars; many cousins, nieces and nephews in the Le Mars area and in South Dakota and Minnesota; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
