Obituary-Sophie Veronica Schaul was born at Alton, Iowa on October 5, 1897 to Pete and Mary (Blatt) Schaul. As a child she moved with her family from Alton, IA to Dell Rapids, South Dakota. In 1900 the Schaul family again moved and settled on a farm near Roswell, SD. Before her marriage she worked as a telephone operator in Alexandria and Roswell.
On January 24, 1933 she was united in marriage to Otto Miller at Roswell. The couple farmed until 1961, when they retired and moved to Howard. Otto passed away in December 1972. Sophie continued to live in her home until 1976, then she moved to the West Side Apartments where she resided until a short time ago when she became ill and could no longer live by herself. She spent one week in the Good Samaritan Center but died at the Madison Hospital November 24, 1985 at the age of 88.
Although Sophie had no children of her own, she had many neices and nephews and their families who took good care of Aunt Soph. Sophie was a member of St Agatha Catholic church, the St Agatha Guild, the Legion Auxiliary and the Howard Senior nior Citiens. She was preceeded in death by her husband, Otto, one sister, Anna Hammond; two brothers, John and Raymond Schaul.
Funeral services were held at St Agatha Catholic church November 2, 1985 with Father Henry Sikkes officiating. Lillian Petrick was organist and Sister Mary Myles was song leader. Duane Miller was lector. Casket bearers were Gerald Miller, ler, Vincent Breuer, Mark Breuer, Denny Miller, Kim Miller and David Hammond. Interment was at St Nicholas Cemetary in Roswell, South Dakota.
