Arlene Hein was born on January 26, 1929, to August and Johannah (Heeren) Hein in rural De Smet, SD. She grew up and attended rural school in the De Smet area.
At the age of 18 she lived with and worked for the Jim and Belva Schley family near Hitchcock. In 1949, her father died and she moved with her mother and sister to Madison, SD, where she worked at Wick’s Produce. In 1950, her mother died and she moved with her sister to De Smet. Later that year Tiny returned to live with the Schley family near Hitchcock.
On June 29, 1951, Tiny married Marvin Kelley at Yale, SD. They lived on the Kelley farm, rural Yale. In 1977, Tiny moved to a home in Huron where she lived until 2003, when she moved into an apartment. After moving to Huron, Tiny worked for a home health care organization until her retirement in 1991.
She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and helped the Women’s Church group with various functions. Her interests included playing cards and dice, reading the bible, and sending greeting cards for all occasions to family and friends. She loved to travel and she and Deanna recently returned from a trip to Las Vegas and California. She relished the time that she could spend with her family.
She is survived by 2 sons, Daniel (Leah) Kelley of Torrington, WY, and Gary Kelley of Denver, CO; 8 grandchildren, Denise Kelley, Jolene Haas, Travis (Florence) Engel, Dawn (Steve) Willadson, Kip (Sandra) Kelley, Cody Kelley, William (Dawn) Eining III, and Sherry Eining; and 13 great grandchildren. In addition to her “blood related” grandchildren, Tiny was a grandmother to all the children of the world.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 daughters, Kathy Kelley in 1989, and Deanna Kelley in 2006; and all of her brothers and sisters.
