Obituary-This community was greatly shocked last Wednesday morning, April 28th, when the word was passed around that Mrs Martin Miller had passed away at the Canova Hospital. Funeral services were conducted from the Catholic church by Rev Father Stecher last Friday morning. The remains were laid to rest at the Catholic Cemetery.
Kathryn Martha Esser was born at Rock Rapids, IA, Lyon county on August 30, 1902 and died at the Canova Hospital at 2.00 o'clock a.m. on April 28, 1926 at the age of 23 years, 7 months and 29 days. At the age of 4 years she moved with her her parents from Rock Rapids to a home 5 miles south of Howard. She attended the rural schools, she was always willing to help anyone in need and did so. On June 3, 1924 she was united in marriage to Martin Miller and they have lived on his father's farm ever since. To this union a baby daughter was born, April 23, 1926, Marjory Kathryn, who with her father are left to mourn the death of a devoted wife. Besides she leaves her father and mother, Mr & Mrs Charles Esser, Three Brothers, Edward C. of Brokings, SD; Alfred & Arthur of Howard and two sisters, Clara, of Howard and Mrs J.B. Miller of Orient, SD. Her brother Charles preceded her in death twenty years ago. She also leaves an aged grandfather, four nephews and a host of uncles, aunts and cousins. She was a life long member of the Catholic church, she received the rites of baptism at Rock Rapids, IA and received her first Holy Communion and Confirmation at St Agatha Catholic church, here in Howard. At the time of her death she was a member of the Mission Society.
