Obituary
OBITUARY-Funeral services for Carl E Lindell were held 10.30 am on Wednesday, August 20, 1986, at Salem United Church, Salem. Rev Dana Houck officiated at the service and burial was in Sun Prairie Baptist Cemetery. The organist was Char Cade who also sang "The New 23rd Psalm." Other special music was provided by Lyle Larson who sang "How Great Thou Art". Pall bearers were Wesley Larson, Kenneth Larson, Craig Kepner, Jerry Rotert, Craig Kepner, Jerry Rotert, Donald Albers and Larry Mulder. A prayer service was held on Tuesday evening at Kinzley Funeral Home, Salem.
Carl Eric Lindell was born November 4, 1908, on a farm northwest of Montrose, SD to Eric and Augusta (Olson) Lindell. He attended one year of high school at Montrose and the remaining years at Salem High School. He also studied accounting at Nettleton College in Sioux Falls.
Carl served in the Army Air Force from June 2, 1942, until April 12, 1946. He was a member of the 20th Strategic Air Command, 468th Bomb Group, 794th Bomb Squadron. He served overseas in Calcutta, India, and Chengtu, China. During his service he received the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon, Battle Star China Campaign, India-Burma Campaign, Air offensive Japan Battle Star, Air Combat Pallenbang Sumatra, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal and American Theater Medal.
Carl was married to Doris DeHeer at Salem on April 25, 1948. They farmed until 1949 when Carl began operating the ditching and excavating business that he operated until his retirement.
Carl passed away on Sunday, August 17, 1986, at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. He had reached the age of 77 years, 9 months and 13 days. He is survived by his wife, Doris, Salem, 2 sisters, Mrs Esther Larson, Winfred, Mrs Elsie Kepner, Tucson, Arizona and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters and one brother.
