Anna Catherine McKinney King, daughter of Earl Joseph and Anna Catherine (Weil) McKinney was born August 1, 1915 in Churchville, Iowa and departed from this life on February 27, 2005 at her home in rural St. Charles, Iowa surrounded by her family. Anna attended school in Warren County and three years at Mount Lorretta Catholic High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa where she graduated. Se was united in marriage to Louis James King on October 23, 1935 in Churchville. Thirteen children blessed their marriage along with 35 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren.
Anna was a housewife and mother and worked at Tim’s Club Café in Winterset for 22 years. She was a member of the Hoosier Prairie Club and the Buffalo Gals Club. She was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Winterset and the St. Joseph Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, working in her gardens and especially spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis; brothers, Joseph, Walter, Hubert and John McKinney; sisters, Ella Forret and Rose Mary Penick,; daughter, Margaret Barker; and one great grandson.
Left to cherish here memory are her children, Patrick King and wife Barb of Prole, Gerald King and wife Bev of Lorimor, Leo King, Luella Fairholm and husband Richard, Nancy Stephenson and husband Gene, Rita Drysdale and husband Mike and Juanita Beeler land husband Tom, all of Winterset, Carolyn Rothfus and husband Lyle, Kathleen Churchill and husband Keith, all of Carlisle. Barbara Birdsell and husband Al of Buckeye, AZ., Dorothy Wedemeyer and husband Rod of St. Charles and Ton King of Earlham; grandchildren; and great grandchildren.
Funeral services are 10 am Wednesday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 pm Tuesday at the St. Joseph Parish Hall with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 pm. A vigil service will be held at 7 pm at the St. Joseph Parish Hall.
