Leona D. Dittmer passed away Monday, May 16, 2005 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am Saturday May 21 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Visitation will be 6 to 8 pm with a rosary at 7:30 pm Friday at the funereal home.
Leona was born in Des Moines. She was the daughter of the late Earl and Anna McKinney. She worked as a switchboard operator and housekeeper in her early years. She was united in marriage to Wilbert Dittmer in 1947. They made their last home on a farm near Panora. After her husband passed away, she moved to Des Moines.
Leona enjoyed gardening, playing cards, sewing, board games, especially Dominos, and spending time with her family.
She is survived by one son, Ronald (Marilyn) Dittmer of Des Moines; Daughters, Rose Dittmer of Des Moines, Phyllis Dittmer of Council Bluffs, Anita (Bill) Purcell of Des Moines, and Diana Dittmer of Phoenix, AZ; one sister, Theresa Hart of Bayard; and one brother, Leonard McKinney of Arvado, CO.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and an infant daughter Dorothy Ann. Also, by four brothers, Joe, Francis, John, and Walter McKinney; and three sisters, Ella Forret, Anna King, and Rose Mary Penick.
