Obituary
Rosemary Callan, 83, passed away Monday, October 29, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held 11 am Saturday, November 3, 2007 at Assumption Catholic Church in Granger with burial to follow at Beaver Catholic Cemetery.
Rosemary was born on June 13, 1924 to Owen and Anna (Ferry) Tiernan and lived on her family farm her entire life. She attended country school through fourth grade then transferred to Granger Assumption School, graduated from high school in 1941.
Rosemary married Vincent Callan on October 12, 1946, raising their five children and sharing 52 years together on the farm. Family activities were central to their lives, including summer Sundays boating at the lake and family vacations.
Rosemary’s participation in community activities began at an early age with her membership and as an officer in Dallas County 4-H. She continued her involvement with 4-H through her five children and as a club leader for many years. She also provided leadership through her many contributions in various offices of the Assumption Parish Catholic Women’s Club and the Granger and Dallas County American Legion Auxiliary. Rosemary retired as president of the Catholic Women’s Club and Granger American Legion Auxiliary in June 2007, after over 57 years of service to these organizations. She was a member of the Assumption Catholic Church Choir for 70 years and was very active in all aspects of her church. Rosemary loved playing cards, participating in several card clubs and senior citizen activities in Woodward and Granger. Rosemary was knows for her cooking and baking. Her “Grandma rolls”, chicken and noodles and chocolate chip cookies were highly prized by her family and friends.
Rosemary’s greatest joy was keeping track of her children and her grand-children and celebrating their many achievements and accomplishments. She traveled across the country to attend all of their important events.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her step-granddaughter, Debby Baker and her son-in-law, Walt Dunning.
She is survived by here children, Pat Callan of Glen Ellyn, IL., Kathleen Dunning of Waterloo, Mike Callan of Fort Worth, TX., Maureen Callan (Ton Bull) of Littleton, CO., and Celeste (Gary) Felix of Omaha, NE.; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
