A funeral mass for Sister Mary Rose Weil, 94, of Bishop Drumm Care Center at Johnston was held Jan. 12, 1987 at the Bishop Drumm Chapel. Sister Rose died of a heart ailment at the care center on Jan. 8. Burial was in Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
The daughter of Joseph M. and Mary Miller Weil, she was born Jan. 25, 1893 on the family farm north of Waukee. She attended Waukee schools and the St. Joseph Academy. In February 1917, she entered the Order of Religious Sisters of Mercy in Council Bluffs, and lacked one month of serving 70 years. For 42 years, she cared for patients and assisted with the operation of St. Bernard’s Hospital in Council Bluffs. She moved to Des Moines 25 years ago to serve at St. Catherine’s Home and the Bishop Drumm Care Center until her retirement. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
