When Irvin was born, his father, Glenn was working for Clyde Piatt and they was living in one of his houses in rural Waukee, Dallas Co., Iowa.

Irv was drafted into the Army on March 8, 1951 and was discharged December 8, 1952. He was in Korea from August 1951 to July 1952. He had his basic training in Fort Riley, Junction City, Kansas. He was then sent to Ft. Bliss at El Paso, Texas for heavy gun artillery training. After his training at El Paso he was sent to Korea where he drove a half-track. When he came home he was sent to Camp Lucas, Sault Ste Marie, Michigan to finish out his time in the service and was discharged from there on December 8, 1952. He received the Korean Svc Medal with 2 Bronze Campaign Stars - UN Svc Medal. He was a Sargeant in D Btry, 8th Army, 7th Infantry Division, 15th AAA Battalion, 1st Squad, 2nd Section. At the time of his discharge he had reached the rank of Sargent 1st class.

Obituary

Irvin D. Flinn, 63, of Cumming died of cancer Friday at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Services will be at 10:30 A. M. Tuesday at Airport Baptist Church in Des Moines, with burial at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Orilla.
Mr. Flinn was born in Waukee and had lived in the Cumming area 40 years. He had been parts manager at Kenworth Mid-Iowa, and was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Cumming American Legion.
Survivors include his wife Ruth "Dolly"; two sons, Donald and Ronald, both of Cumming; his mother, Lorene Flinn of West Des Moines; three brothers, Earl of Cumming, Gordon of West Des Moines and Lewis of Spring Hill; a sister, Wilma Beveridge of West Des Moines; and five grandchildren.
Friends may call all day Monday at Peterson Funeral Home in Indianola, where the family will be present from to 4 P. M. and 6 to 8 P. M. Memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Ridge Cemetery's Avenue of Flags fund.

Pallbearers were Donald Flinn, Ronald Flinn, Earl Flinn, Lewis Flinn, Gordon Flinn and Vernon Flinn. Rev. Earl E. Swigart officiated the service and a Testimony was given by Lorne Scharnberg. The organist was Eleanore Swigart and Patti Ford the vocalist. The songs were "Beyond The Sunset and Shall We Gather At The River".
