Obituary
After a long and severe illness, George Kirchner passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. GM Eldridge (Aunt Cate). About six months ago Mr Kirchner was afflicted with a cancer on his chin from which he suffered until his summons came, and he was fully prepared to go. The funeral service was held at the residence of Mr and Mrs GM Eldridge, Rev Father Buno Tank of Petoekay officiated. He was buried in the East cemetery. the funeral being held Sunday at 8 pm. George Kirchner was born in Saxony, Germany on May 6, 1837. When 16 years of age he emigrated with his parents to America and settled in the Cooper Settlement, Garfield (Clearfield) County, PA, where he married Anna D Bock of Baden, Germany, August 20, 1861. At the death of his parents, he and his wife came to Michigan and settled in Hesperia in 1863. They were among the first settlers who braved the hardships the wilderness afforded at that time. He has been a resident of Hesperia for 43 years. His wife died in 1903, leaving him to mourn but a few short months. His five children and four grandchildren survive him and scores of friends mourn his departure.
