50th WEDDING ANNIVERSARY-An event of more than passing interest occurred in Howard Monday when Mr and Mrs VC Miller celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage.
The day's activities started off with Mass at St Agatha's Catholic Church in this city, with Rev Father Veeser officiating. Also the wedding ceremony of half a century was renewed. Miss Pauline Miller and Richard Peschong, grandchildren of Mr and Mrs Miller acted as bridesmaid and best man in this ceremony. After the ceremony members of the St Agatha's Guild served a sumptuous three course dinner at the Parish Hall, at which seventy-seven relatives of the high contracting parties were present. Mr and Mrs Miller then went to their fine home where they kept "open house" all the afternoon and evening and where their many relatives and hosts of friends in these parts called and extended congratulations and wishes for many more anniversaries for this fine couple.
They received some lovely gifts and a substantial purse in rememberance of this occasion.
Mr Miller was born in Clairfield county, Pennsylvania, July 30, 1863, while Mrs Miller was born at New Vienna, Iowa, Dec 10, 1862. They were united in marriage on Nov 8, 1887 at St Mary, Iowa. They moved to Miner County in 1910 and purchased a farm two miles south of Howard where they resided until 1927, when they moved to Howard and this has been their home ever since. Eight sons and two daughters were born to Mr and Mrs Miller and the only breaks in this large family circle was the death of their daughter, Mary (Mrs Nick Brewer) which occurred a few years ago, all their nine remaining children were present on this happy occasion, together with twenty-six grandchildren and numerous other relatives. The children are as follows-John Miller of Polo, SD, Joe, Martin, Frank and Herman Miller and Mrs Fritz Peschong, all of Howard vicinity, Otto Miller of Roswell, Henry Miller of Sioux Falls and George Miller of Winfred.
