Dorothy never married. She was a Rollins College graduate, and began teaching at Magnolia School in 1916. She served as principal of West Central School and was Memorial High School's first principal. She retired in 1961 as Professor Emeritus from Randolph-Macon College for Women in Lynchburg, Virginia. After retirement, she held offices in several Orlando organizations. She was the first President of the Orlando Chapter of Business and Professional Women.
