Nelvin F. Derscheid, 80, of Portland, Ore., died March 12, 2000 at his home.
He was born Sept 6, 1919 in Smith, S.D. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving during W.W. II. Nelvin worked in the Portland area from 1966 to 1985. Prior to that, he owned Nel’s Central Service in Glendale, Ore. Earlier in his life he had worked at J. Niels Lumber Company in Klickitat.
Nelvin married Margret Saunders in 1945, they later divorced. He then married Gail A. Elton.
Survivors include his wife, Gail Derscheid of Portland, Ore.; six daughters, Monta Ray Duncan, Misty Potter, Toni Puckett and Sheri Derscheid, of Portland, Ore., Tawnee Gimlin, of Vancouver, and Lori Coryell, of Anchorage, Alaska; five sons, N.F. "Nick" Derscheid, Jr., of Longview, Raymond Derscheid and Toby Derscheid, of Portland, Ore.; Douglas Derscheid, of Vancouver, and Richard Elton, of Spokane; two sisters, Elva Frey, of Klickitat and Joyce Apperson, of Glendale, Ore.; 26 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services were held March 17 at Wilhelm's Heritage Chapel in Portland, Ore. Private urn placement will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Ore.
