VENETA - A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 15, at Major Family Funeral Home in Springfield for Parris Derscheid of Veneta, who died April 9 of small cell lung cancer at age 62. A celebration of life will follow at noon Saturday at Crazy Al's Tavern in Veneta.

He was born June 25, 1943, in Bell, Calif., to Merle and Cleva Heckenliable Derscheid. He and his wife, Betty, were married in 1995 in Eugene.

He served in the Army during the Vietnam War and worked as a crane operator for Rosboro Lumber for 32 years.

Survivors include his wife; his parents; a daughter, Jennifer Derscheid; three stepchildren, Sheila, Telesa and Derek; a brother, Kenneth; a sister, Cynthia Derscheid Prentice; and eight grandchildren.
