Lena "Mitty" Derscheid, 101, Howard, died on Feb. 21, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Society in Howard.

The services will be held in the Willoughby Funeral Home at Howard, with inurnment to follow in Graceland Cemetery there.

Lena Sievers was born on May 5, 1910, on a farmstead near Bridgewater to George and Elizabeth (Fry) Sievers. She grew up in the area and attended country school. She moved to California where she worked. She returned to Howard, where she worked at the City Cafe and Good Samaritan Center. In later years, she lived in Watertown. She became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society in Howard in March 2011.

Lena enjoyed gardening, playing cards, board games and playing the piano, organ by ear, at which she was very talented. One of her most important enjoyments was having popcorn and candy. Lena loved animals, especially her dogs. Her family and friends were the utmost imortance to her as she was a very loving and caring individual.

Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews, their children, and a stepdaughter, Shirley (Duane) Miller of Winfred, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, seven brothers and three sisters.
