Frederick was named for the son of Judge Lyman Tremain and his wife Marie. Their son, Fred Lyman Tremain died from a wound in the hip at Fredricksburg, Virginia in the Civil War. Judge Tremain was Lucina Penfield mother's brother (her uncle). Fred worked at Ithaca Conservatory of Music in Maryland. He died in Orlando, FL and is buried in George Washington Cemetery in Tacoma Park, Maryland. Ruth was a librarian in Silver Springs, MD where they lived. She was born in Berea, KY and died in Lakeland, FL on November 9, 1983. She was cremated and her ashes buried. Fred attended the inauguration of President McKinley with Uncle Electus. Electus took nephew Fred Lyman Pratt, son of Ezra Post Pratt, to the inaugration of President McKinley in 1897. They were walking down Pennsylvania Avenue, before the parade. Major Howard, in uniform, was riding a horse. He had also lost an arm. They recognized each other and Electus went out into the street and they shook hands. Major Howard founded Howard University in Washington, DC. On January 22, 1996, Howard University appointed General Colin Powell to its Board of Trustees.
