He lived in Kristberg, Sweden, He took part in the finish war of 1809, the campaign against Napoleon in 1813, the campaign in Norway in 1814. Died when they built the Gota Kanal (canal) and was burried with military honours in Motala. His wife leased the croft Hasttumla in 1815 to avoid that the sons should be treated badly as soldiers. Besides Karl, he had a daughter, Maja who married Kalle Holm, who was a smith and carpenter at Nordsjo.

Jan became a soldier in 1802. He moved with his family to a soldatorp (soldier croft) named Stubba. He changed his name to Jan Stubb. Sweden had peace, but he was abroad in Norway, Finland and with Napoleon. In 1817 he worked with digging the channel, Gota Kanal. It is still a canal from Gothenburg to the Baltic.
