Obituary
John Junior Penick, 88 of Bayard died of a heart ailment Tuesday at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Services will be at 10:30 am Friday at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel, with burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Dallas Center.
Mr. Penick was born in Eddyville and had lived in Booneville, Lebanon, Mo., Versailles, Mo., Waukee, Norwalk and St. Charles before moving to Bayard 14 years ago. He was a farmer, a sheet metal worker, a mechanic and a carpenter before retiring. He was skilled at many trades, but fishing came first.
He is survived by his wife, Rose Mary; three daughters, Rose Lemon of DeSoto, Karen Fitzpatrick of Bagley and Marilyn Hodges of Des Moines; three sons, John of Booneville, Raymond of Gainsville, Ga., and Michael of Middletown, Del.; a sister, Irene Turner of Lebanon; 25 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
